Azadirachta indica - Kodunim


Azadirachta indica is a large evergreen tree,it is commonly known as nem nimtree. Neem is  fast growing tree in India that can reach up to 15-20 m tall. It is native to India ,Myanmar, Bangladesh, Malaysia. It is found throughout India in deciduous forest,in area with low rainfall. It is sparsely distributed in Goa. Leaves pinnate with serrate margin,bright green, shining at both sides. The flowers are white,scented. The fruit is a smooth, drupe ovoid-oblong,having one seed, dark purple when ripe.


Uses:
  • The powder of leaves is a tonic and also used in skin diseases.
  •  Decoction of leaves is used to treat ulcers and eczema.
  • seed oil is used for skin infections
  • Fresh tender twigs are used to clean teeth,particularly to cure pyorrhea. 
  • Decoction of bark is used for treating fever,cough,bronchitis,liver inflammation, leprosy,eyes disorders.
  • Neem oil is used for healthy hair.
  • Dried leaves are used to protect grain from insect. 
  •  Leaves are also used as insecticide,as antiseptic ,deodorant,carminatice,in diabetes, rheumatism, jaundice, blood diseases and as contraceptive.
