Ocimum tenuiflorum-Tulas



Ocimum tenuiflorum is also know as Tulsa. Tulas is the numerous branched  woody herb. Leaves are dark green in colour, hairy, opposite ,entire,toothed with minute glands. Steam purple, hairy, giving out numerous branches. Flowers purplish-pink,small in terminal, closely whorled racemes. It is found almost everywhere  in Goa and cultivated in gardens.

Uses:
  •  Leaf juice is used in cough, hiccups, respiratory tract disorders and leprosy. It is also applied externally for ringworm  and other skin diseases.
  • Oil prepared from leaves is anti-bacterial and insecticidal.
  • Infusion of leaves is used for ailmentary tract disorders,to check malaria and expel worms from the body.
  • Decoction of seeds is used for chronic constipation,piles. To protect alimentary tract, to relieve inflammation. It also helps in curing urogenital disorders .
  • Grounded fresh roots applied for stings of bees and wasps and problems caused by worms and leeches.
